Actor Tamannaah Bhatia has been summoned by the Maharashtra cyber cell
Actor Tamannaah Bhatia has been summoned by the Maharashtra cyber cell in relation to the purported advertising of watching Indian Premier League (IPL) matches on a subsidiary app of the Mahadev online gambling and betting programme, officials announced on Thursday. The actor, who is well-known for roles in films like Baahubali and the Netflix series Lust Stories 2, has been invited to testify on April 29 in front of Maharashtra cyber officials.
Tamannaah and Sanjay Dutt are said to have supported FairPlay’s Mahadev betting app subsidiary, according to ANI. The Maharashtra cyber cell called them in for what they claimed was encouraging people to watch the IPL matches on the betting app.
The Maharashtra cyber cell has already recorded the statements of musician Badshah and the management of stars Sanjay Dutt and Jacqueline Fernandez. Sanjay and Tamannaah have been called to testify in court and provide a statement. Sanjay has requested a later time, citing his busy work schedule.
Many sports and entertainment betting options are available for leisure gaming on the FairPlay app, a betting exchange platform. In 2023, officials claimed that several IPL matches were illegally streamed via the app, citing a complaint to support their claim. Viacom 18, which owned exclusive broadcasting rights for the cricket competition, did not give the FairPlay app clearance. The broadcaster suffered enormous losses as a result of the alleged unlawful streaming.
Illegal betting on a variety of online games, including badminton, tennis, football, cricket, card games, and poker, was made possible via the Mahadev app. Rumoured owners of the app are Sourabh and Ravi Uppal, who reside in Dubai. The company runs from Dubai where betting is legal, but, it’s banned in India.
