Navy helicopters crash in midair in Malaysia, killing ten people.
During a practice for a military parade, two Malaysian navy helicopters collided in midair, killing all ten crew members. Before the two planes fell into the earth, one of them clipped the other’s rotor, according to video that was released by the local media. The event happened in the Malaysian town of Lumut, which is home to a Royal Malaysian Navy facility, at 9:30 local time (02:30 BST).
The Royal Malaysian Navy stated, “All casualties were pronounced dead at the scene, and the remains were transferred to the [Lumut] Military Hospital for identification. It further stated that a committee would be established to look into what caused the tragedy. It is thought that one of the helicopters, a HOM M503-3 carrying seven passengers, crashed onto a running track.
The other, a Fennec M502-6 transporting the remaining three casualties, collided with a neighboring swimming pool. The incident was reported to the state’s fire and rescue service around 09:50 local time (01:50 GMT). Anwar Ibrahim, the prime minister of Malaysia, stated that “the nation mourns the heart-wrenching and soul-wrenching tragedy” in a message on X, the platform that was once known as Twitter. “Condolences to all the families of the victims and prayers for strength to face this calamity,” he stated.
During a training flight in March, a Malaysian coast guard helicopter crashed into the water off the shore of Angsa Island. Fishermen located the pilot, co-pilot, and two passengers on board and saved them.
