In a WPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz, Ellyse Perry (58, 37b, 4×4, 4×6) was in dangerous form.
During a Women’s Premier League game on Monday versus UP Warriorz, the Royal Challengers Bangalore batters displayed some amazing hitting at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. With captain Smriti Mandhana and star all-rounder Elsyse Perry hitting fifty each, Royal Challengers Bangalore amassed a massive 198 for three in 20 overs. In an attempt to snap a two-match losing trend, RCB moved Sophie Devine out of the starting position and promoted S Meghana, and it worked.
The Royal Challengers were well-positioned after the Power Play, as the hosts finished at 57 for 1, their highest score in WPL 2, thanks to 51 runs in 5.3 overs added by Meghana and Mandhana (80, 50b, 10×4, 3×6).
In order to maximize that start, Mandhana and Perry (58, 37b, 4×4, 4×6) added 95 runs off just 64 balls for the second wicket while the UP bowlers withered due to the intense heat.
With her incredible timing, the left-hander played strokes all over the field and showed no regard for spinners. She will feel so much more confident because she frequently finds herself up against the tweakers.
After being dropped on 28 wickets, Mandhana was especially harsh on left-arm bowler Anjali Sarvani and off-spinner Chamari Athapathuthu, whom she hit for numerous fours and sixes.
But to quiet the yelling RCB supporters, off-spinner Deepti Sharma’s slog-sweep fell in the clutches of Poonam Khemnar at deep mid-wicket.
Perry, however, and Richa Ghosh combined 42 runs off 18 balls for the third wicket as RCB powered on to a substantial total. Perry had hit left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad for two straight sixes. Even the window of the showcase car was broken by one of her sixes.
Alyssa Healy’s fifty (55, 38b, 7×4, 3×6) at the end of the Warriorz’s pursuit, which concluded at 175/8, was the only highlight of the chase.
After sustaining a shoulder injury during Warriorz’s match against the Mumbai Indians on February 28, Vrinda Dinesh will miss the rest of the WPL.
In Uma Chetry’s place, the UP team has agreed to pay her base price of Rs 10 lakhs to become their wicket-keeper batter.
Uma was a member of the India A Emerging side that won the ACC Emerging Women’s Asia Cup 2023 and recently played for India A against England A.
In addition, RCB changed the lineup by benching veteran Ekta Bisht in place of Shreyanka Patil, who was injured.
