Israel Gaza War update:

After a 14-day siege, the Israeli military announced that it had left the Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. Spokesman for the Gaza Civil Defense told CNN that the complex, the biggest hospital in the area, had been “completely destroyed.” Outside of Israel’s parliament on Sunday, a sizable gathering of demonstrators demanded the release of hostages detained in Gaza and the dismissal of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. On Saturday, there were also widespread anti-government demonstrations. In Cairo, talks have recommenced over a truce and hostage agreement between Israel and Hamas. A deadlock had been struck in the negotiations earlier this week. In the upcoming days, more food aid is anticipated to arrive in Gaza via sea. Israel’s massive destruction of the enclave and throttling of aid means that Palestinians are suffering from catastrophic levels of hunger.

The largest hospital in the region, according to a Gaza Civil Defense spokeswoman on the site, had been “completely destroyed and burned down.” According to Bassal, about thirty injured individuals were moved from Al-Shifa to the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, which is located east of Gaza City. The Israeli army raided Al-Shifa for the first time in November. Its second military assault there occurred in spite of the IDF’s declaration in January that it had finished destroying Hamas’ northern Gaza command structure. Despite reports from Palestinians inside and around Al-Shifa of civilian casualties and arrests, the IDF claims that patients, medical teams, and civilians were evacuated throughout the operation.
