Reliance Jio overtakes China Mobile to become the biggest mobile operator globally in terms of data traffic.
Reliance India’s telecom powerhouse Jio has surpassed China Mobile to become the largest mobile operator globally in terms of data traffic. The news was made on Monday along with Jio’s quarterly statistics, which showed off some incredible numbers and accomplishments across a number of categories.
With 108 million users on its True5G Standalone network as of March 2024, Jio touts a 481.8 million subscriber base. Jio’s dominant position in the Indian telecom market is reflected in the number.
A press release states that 40.9 Exabytes of traffic have passed through the Jio network overall, representing a 35.2% year-over-year increase.
This increase is explained by the expanding uptake of 5G and home services. Notably, 5G subscribers account for 28% of traffic, suggesting a quick shift to next-generation connectivity.
Jio’s Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services have also made a substantial contribution to the data traffic.
The annual data traffic has dramatically increased by 2.4 times since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the monthly per capita data usage has skyrocketed to 28.7 GB from just 13.3 GB three years ago. This increase highlights India’s increasing dependence on digital connectivity.
The chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries Limited, Mukesh Ambani, commented on the outcomes and expressed his happiness with the business’s performance and contribution to the Indian economy.
He emphasized the noteworthy accomplishments, such as being the first Indian business to generate pre-tax profits above Rs 100,000 crore.
Ambani declared, “RIL’s commercial initiatives have significantly aided in the development of numerous Indian economic sectors. It is encouraging to see that all segments have reported strong operating and financial results, in addition to the development of the national economy. This has aided the company in reaching several significant goals. I’m pleased to announce that Reliance crossed the Rs 100,000-crore pre-tax profit threshold this year, making it the first Indian firm to do so.” Ambani also highlighted Jio’s contribution to India’s digital revolution, from introducing smartphones to 2G customers to spearheading the development of AI-driven solutions.
He said, “Jio is leading the 5G revolution in India with over 108 million True 5G customers. Jio has demonstrated its capacity to fortify the country’s digital infrastructure by introducing smartphones to its 2G subscribers and spearheading the development of AI-driven solutions.”
He emphasized Jio’s dedication to bolstering the country’s digital infrastructure and its ongoing efforts to provide customers cutting-edge solutions. Reliance Retail, the company’s retail division, also had great growth, with a 36% rise in foot traffic and sophisticated digital commerce platforms that provide a wide range of brands. “Reliance Retail’s strong omni-channel presence allowed it to continue offering clients an unlimited array of options. We keep providing greater offline experiences and product distinction by remodeling and rearranging store layouts. Our digital commerce platforms provide users a wide range of brand catalogue options along with more recent solutions. Ambani stated, “Reliance Retail also strives to strengthen millions of merchants through its innovative initiatives in the new commerce space.”
Reliance Industries Limited has demonstrated endurance in its Oil to Chemicals (O2C) division, alongside its telecom and retail segments, even in the face of difficult market conditions. The KG-D6 block, which produces 30% of India’s domestic gas, has reached important production milestones.
